College is/was: admittedly

College is a time that I tried to be the best feminist I could be.
College is a time that I tried to be the coolest I could be.

At times, I found these interests left unreconciled, sometimes antagonistic, always, it seemed, at an impasse: which would you rather be?  Sometimes, it feels like my interests in art, literature, music, and media really compromised my interests in feminism (metonymic for social justice), which often made me feel like a square, not fun, too serious, in conversations with new friends at parties.

As graduation nears, I’m thinking of a future in which these two remain enmeshed in and as a crucial part of my “identity.”  They are difficult to navigate on their own, let alone in conjunction.  Good thing that what they both seem to foster is a sense of a never-ending challenge.
